Lighting design for property developers

Lighting design

Builders cannot afford free lighting design.

Free lighting planning is neither neutral nor complete – and rarely conceived from a design perspective. Whether reduced by the electrical planner to compliance with standard values or provided as a sales argument by a manufacturer: what appears to be a service usually costs more later – due to a lack of competition, lost quality of stay, and subsequently even renovation costs.
The truly decisive lighting effects – visual, biological, emotional, atmospheric – cannot simply be „retrofitted“. They are created in the design process. In the early phase of a project, when structural openings, room depths, materials, and usage scenarios can still be actively shaped.

Architecture begins with light. But not with the visible.

Volume, area, material. Visible – yes. Yet without effect. Light not only shapes spaces, but also time, rhythm, perception. It influences our thinking, our feeling, our being. And yet, the most effective light is often that which we do not see.
Collaboration between architects and lighting designers should begin precisely here – not as an afterthought, but as a creative dialogue. At DAY & LIGHT, we view light as an architectural element: subtle, structural, and space-defining. Our approach begins where traditional lighting design ends – in the invisible

From seeing to effect

Generations of scientists researched the question of why light not only allows us to see, but changes us. Around the turn of the millennium, researchers discovered those photoreceptors in the human eye that do not serve vision – but rather the internal clock. They influence hormone balance, sleep rhythms, and attention. In 2017, this discovery was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
We take these very non-visual effects of light seriously – and we shape them. We collaborate with architects to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also beneficial. Light that doesn't glare. Light that provides orientation without dominating. Light that doesn't shine, but rather has an effect.

Good light requires early design

We believe that good lighting cannot be „installed“ as an afterthought. It is created during the design process. During the initial planning stages. Where materials, openings, and room depths are considered – light must also be considered. The position of a luminaire is not a technical decision. It is part of the narrative of a space.
When light becomes a concept rather than a reaction, quality emerges. Atmospheric, functional, emotional. For daylight guidance, shading, spatial depth, and light colour, we are your partner – not as a service provider, but as a co-creator.

Energy efficiency and cost savings

Achieving a lot with little: Perfect facade lighting achieves the desired visual effect with minimal material usage. The modern LED luminaires used for this purpose are particularly energy-efficient and have a long service life. They enable precise light control to reduce scattered light and light pollution, while simultaneously lowering maintenance and operating costs.

Intelligent control systems

Through the use of sensors and control systems, lighting can be adjusted as needed and thus save energy. These systems offer flexible and efficient lighting modes and can meet the requirements of nature conservation by significantly reducing or switching off lighting late at night.

What you wouldn't expect

DAY & LIGHT is not a lighting design firm. We are spatial thinkers who use light as a tool. Our projects range from urban outdoor lighting and museum lighting to sensitive residential lighting concepts. We always have one goal in mind: to create an impact – not simply to install light fixtures.
We are happy to support you from service phase 1. With the necessary depth in detail, but also with an understanding for the overall design curve of your work. Architecture begins with light. And does not end with the luminaire.

Bespoke consultation and planning

We begin with a detailed analysis of your needs and develop bespoke concepts. In doing so, we take into account the architecture of your building, its significance within the cityscape, and liaise closely with heritage protection authorities. We also address the interfaces between the various trades to ensure seamless integration.

Everything from a single source

Our service supports you from the initial analysis and planning right through to construction-phase consultation. We offer comprehensive maintenance consulting services and take care of illuminating the spotlights and coordinating the lighting scene. Read more

Consultation for the client

Put your trust in a partner who not only understands lighting, but also thinks in terms of architecture. DAY & LIGHT stands for experience, dialogue on equal terms and creative depth – from the initial idea right through to the finest detail.
