{"id":19057,"date":"2025-05-20T18:02:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T16:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/interim.dayandlight.de\/?p=19057"},"modified":"2026-03-31T11:15:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:15:12","slug":"light-shadows-in-architecture-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dayandlight.de\/en\/licht-schatten-in-der-architektur-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Light and Shadow in Architecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"http:\/\/dayandlight.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/geneto.jpg\" alt=\"gene\" class=\"wp-image-19114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dayandlight.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/geneto.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/dayandlight.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/geneto-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dayandlight.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/geneto-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/dayandlight.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/geneto-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dayandlight.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/geneto-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">gene<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>A special evening for UNESCO's International Day of Light<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am&nbsp;<strong>16 May 2025<\/strong>&nbsp;on the occasion of&nbsp;<strong>UNESCO International Year of Light<\/strong>&nbsp;an inspiring evening of talks on the topic of&nbsp;<em>Light and darkness in architecture<\/em>&nbsp;hosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a guest in the premises of&nbsp;<strong>DAY &amp; LIGHT<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Munich<\/strong>&nbsp;were&nbsp;<strong>Koji Yamanaka<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Asako Yamashita<\/strong>&nbsp;from the renowned Japanese architecture firm&nbsp;<strong>GENETO<\/strong>&nbsp;from Kyoto.<br>In their lecture, they spanned the spectrum from traditional Japanese architecture to their own contemporary projects \u2013 inspired by literary essays.&nbsp;<em>\u201eIn Praise of Shadows\u201c<\/em>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong>Tanizaki Junichiro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus was on the particular aesthetic and cultural significance of shadow in Japanese architecture.<br>While Western architecture often focuses on brightness, transparency, and visibility, in Japan, the&nbsp;<strong>dim light<\/strong>&nbsp;used consciously \u2013 it creates spaces full of silence, depth, and intimacy.<br><strong>Materials such as wood and paper<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>extensive eaves<\/strong>, creating gentle transitions between light and dark.<br>Just this&nbsp;<strong>Semi-darkness<\/strong>, the&nbsp;<strong>Hidden<\/strong>, lends a quiet dignity to the architecture \u2013 an expression of a philosophy that seeks beauty in suggestion, not in the obvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following this,&nbsp;<strong>Frank Vetter<\/strong>&nbsp;an equally captivating lecture on the creative power of light and darkness \u2013 in both historical and contemporary projects.<br>He demonstrated how the conscious use of daylight and artificial light in conjunction with shadows not only alters perception but also creates special atmospheres and places. Furthermore, he provided insights into his own experiences in Japan and his collaboration with GENETO \u2013 an intercultural exchange that drives creative impulses far beyond borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved and all visitors for this special evening!<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Am 16.
