A new city square is now being designed for the newly created urban district in Munich's Riem Ost district, commissioned by Münchner Raumentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH. In the future, Elisabeth-Castonier-Platz will offer a place with high quality of stay and diverse usage possibilities, in order to flexibly respond to the dynamically growing quarter.
The landscape architects designed a vibrant plaza with zonal differentiation through variously designed floor „carpets,“ as well as freely placed wooden seating sculptures and a mosaic-designed fountain.
High-quality lighting design supports the „living room as a meeting place“ concept: Spotlights on tall masts create a lively lighting effect through contrasts and accentuations of the urban furniture, with sufficient uniformity to avoid dark spots and areas of fear. The selectively adjustable spotlights with additional glare control measures avoid disruptive radiation into surrounding residential windows.
