When architects have the opportunity to design for themselves, they can let their imaginations run wild. In Keihoku, to the north of Kyoto, GENETO Architects have built a cottage. In addition to their own furniture manufactory, „Pivoto,“ it serves as accommodation for participants of furniture workshops and at the same time as a wonderful rural hideaway for working, reflecting, and relaxing. What's special about this house lies in an architecture that has completely freed itself from pragmatic constraints. It follows the architect's principle: „Here I can design what I want, and no one can interfere.“ The roof slopes inwards, the stairs are located on the outside, and the shelving system extends as a freeform design throughout the entire building. The lighting is seamlessly integrated into these forms and appears to have organically grown with the rest of the building. With only one exception, the lighting is invisibly embedded in the architecture.
