Conversion of a former industrial site into a modern residential and work area

Reisch Projektentwicklung created a multi-functional quarter on the approximately 11,000 m² site, combining living, retail, gastronomy, culture, and services. The vibrant diversity is evident in its appearance and function. The machine factory hall, dating from 1901, has been renovated and transformed into modern workspaces for creatives and media professionals. The site also houses a Bruderhaus Diakonie with a workshop for people with mental health conditions, a grocery store, and a café. Short distances between apartments and workplaces lead through charming open spaces between modern architectural styles and historic industrial architecture.

The lighting emphasises the character of the architecture, the tranquil square and the secluded gardens, whilst remaining discreetly in the background. Only light sources with low light point heights were used to prevent disruptive stray light and glare in the surrounding flats. Light bollards provide good wayfinding lighting along the paths, whilst asymmetrically radiating light strips create subtle accents to define the spaces and highlight individual plants or benches. In particular, the historic factory building in the centre is thus given subtle wall illumination, shaping the identity and character of the location in the evening streetscape.
