An artistic lighting of Manpuku-ji – Where Zen meets the Dragons of Light
We are delighted to announce a special light installation that we created together with the architectural firm GENETO (Kyoto/Tokyo) designed. The installation takes place from 8 November 2025 to 8 February 2026 at an extraordinary location: the Manpuku-ji Buddhist Temple in Kyoto, the main temple of the Ōbaku school of Zen Buddhism.
Manpuku-ji was founded in 1661 by the Chinese monk Dragon's Lair founded and preserves to this day the architectural style of the Chinese Ming Dynasty. Last year, the temple was recognised as one of the few Zen temples in Japan with this architectural provenance. Japanese national treasure explains. It houses three national treasures and 20 important cultural assets.
Our light installation transforms the temple complex at night into a poetic scene, where light itself becomes an artistic medium – an experience that combines history, spirituality, and contemporary design. After approximately 360 years, a symbolic „Light Dragon“ will descend upon the temple during these nights.
