Between historic harbour character and new urban landscape, the two bridges unfold a consciously staged, yet precisely coordinated lighting concept. Building on the clear engineering aesthetic of the Corten steel constructions, light is understood as an integral part of the design: it not only accompanies the path, but also specifically showcases the structures.
High-cut-off bollard lights with low glare provide uniform, safe illumination for pedestrian and cycle paths. The light distribution is designed to consistently minimise light spill beyond the bridge edges into the harbour basin, ensuring that views of the water surface, the cathedral panorama and the new quarter remain free from disruptive reflections.
The inclined pylons, as the main supporting structure, are subtly illuminated, making the distinctive silhouette of the bridges spatially perceptible even at night. Warm white light colours with a reduced blue component respect the sensitive harbour ecology and species conservation – especially for animals and insects near the shore. Thus, function and staging combine to create a discreetly dramatic night-time form for the structures.
