Translucence, transparency and colour – light in the arcade

The new GEWOFAG residential block on Innsbrucker Ring provides sound insulation for the adjacent city quarter and creates new homes for people in need of care and assistance. The design concept of the gallery access with Steglit glass facade protects the apartments themselves from noise facing the street. The special appearance of the building is characterised by the coloured wall design of the gallery access in conjunction with the translucent Steglit glazing.

To showcase this unique feature even after dark, GEWOFAG commissioned DAY & LIGHT to develop a night-time design. This was achieved with minimal investment and running costs. The general lighting, consisting solely of light strips with protective tube reflectors, illuminates the pergola and directs light specifically onto the coloured walls. This luminance of the walls really brings out the colour scheme and transforms the glass façade into a brightly coloured surface.

Thus, a fine prime example has been created, demonstrating that an impressive night view does not necessarily require elaborate effect lighting, but can be achieved with very simple means through intelligent use of light.
