Reutlingen Marketplace

Lighting concept The lighting principle for the square highlights its edges and defines its volume as a space through balanced contrasts. The luminaires are arranged in the southeast along the line of trees: post-top luminaires approximately 8m high illuminate both the square and the trees. The trees are additionally lit from below, thus offering a cosy and friendly place to spend time. Integrated light optics subtly illuminate the eastern facades – particularly that of the hospital – visually enclosing the square. To the southwest, the staggered arrangement of the town hall and the varied design of the outdoor spaces are visible.

The targeted use of well-diffused light optics and appropriately adequate illuminance levels for the respective areas ensures a high degree of visual comfort. For this purpose, a modularly configurable luminaire head with a uniform, understated and non-directional design language is used: for the marketplace with a 8m and for the adjacent areas with a 6m pole height. In the side streets, the existing lighting column type is continued.

The main part of the plaza area remains free of lighting poles, and zones are created within which individual accents can be displayed:
Subtle bench lighting invites you to linger, while base lighting for walls and steps, or „islands of light“ in the water basins, complete a atmospheric evening cityscape and provide orientation. The choreographed water feature with integrated lighting, as well as the Maximilian Fountain, are individually highlighted from the ground.

The foundation walls of the historic town hall are delineated as a graphic „light photograph“ using light points integrated into the ground, documenting their former location as a testament to the city's history and shaping the identity of the square.

The atmospheric lighting, in a warm colour, enhances an inviting outdoor dining area and creates a public space with a high quality of stay.
