Vibrant neighbourhood square with precise, sustainable lighting design

Auguste-Kent-Platz is designed as an openly laid out neighbourhood square for pedestrians and forms a central link between surrounding buildings and the S-Bahn station. A generous, level square surface allows for barrier-free access; islands of vegetation with perennials, meadows and trees structure the space and enhance its ecological quality. Enclosed planting areas and circular benches create diverse seating areas for different user groups.

The lighting design supports this clear, multifunctional spatial structure and makes it perceptible even in the evening hours. Floodlights on poles with focused, pinpoint light sources provide brilliance and plasticity. The freely distributed luminaire positions and the deliberately high-contrast illumination create a lively, yet clear night-time image. Each floodlight is aimed so that only the traffic areas are illuminated, while the adjacent vegetation remains in darkness. Unwanted light emission upwards or into the surroundings is avoided, thus reducing light pollution.

With warm white LED light sources, the project contributes to the energy-saving target of the state capital Munich; the luminaires used comply with the specifications of the urban design catalogue of the state capital Munich.
