Within the framework of holistic urban development, designed by lohrer.hochrein, the former ERBA site is being remediated and redeveloped. Initial conversions are already complete, and the site already promises to be particularly charming and vibrant due to its diverse uses: living, working, socialising and culture are all combined in one area. The neighbourhood is both connected to the old town and tactfully integrated into the natural landscape.

DAY & LIGHT was commissioned by the town of Wangen to draw up the lighting design, with the aim of ensuring safety in the public spaces whilst also creating a pleasant, atmospheric setting in the evenings that encourages people to stroll and linger. To this end, in addition to the path lighting, the buildings are also sensitively integrated into the concept to define the spaces and convey the character of the historic spinning and weaving buildings.

However, lighting is handled with care, taking into account the listed historic fabric as well as the surrounding nature. The chimney serves as a landmark, as well as housing a family of storks. The lighting is managed accordingly: the chimney is illuminated exclusively from top to bottom, without emitting any scattered light into the sky, and the stork pair has since successfully raised young undisturbed.
Light emission upwards as well as light sources in the breeding areas and flight paths of bats were avoided. The facade lights of the Neue Spinnerei, which shine upwards, are switchable separately and are only switched on for special occasions.
