Precise light for a clear nocturnal identity

The Leuchtenbergring pedestrian bridge will create a new, distinctive connection for pedestrians and cyclists across the central railway axis in Munich. Our lighting design gives the bridge structure its own recognisable identity in the nocturnal cityscape – without appearing obtrusive. The body of the bridge is precisely outlined with calm, even light bands, ensuring its structure remains clearly legible, while the luminaires themselves largely recede into the background.

The focus is on safety, orientation, and visual comfort. The lighting of the bridge, ramps, and stairs ensures good facial illumination and clear spatial perception, thereby supporting the subjective sense of safety and simultaneously meeting all normative requirements. Through careful light control and shielded optics, glare is consistently avoided – both for pedestrians on the bridge and for train drivers on the tracks below.

The luminaires are elegantly and discreetly integrated into the handrails and supporting structure. This creates a calm, ordered night-time image with minimal light pollution and no distracting luminances. Additional decorative lighting is deliberately omitted; instead, the bridge integrates itself naturally into the nocturnal urban fabric as a clearly contoured, subtly illuminated element.
